Street Parties Events - Chinese New Year The Chinese New Year is the most important date in China. The festival celebrates the earth's rejuvenation with the arrival of Spring. Houses are cleaned out, decorated with lanterns and incense is burnt, fireworks help to keep away evil spirits. New Year's Dinner is seafood and dumplings. Usually you would wear something red as this colour wards off evil spirits. At the end of the New Year comes the Festival of Lanterns.
